OCCT TT 2020 Week 2 Updates

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to move our events online. Oxford Translation Day will now take place as online sessions over a series of weeks, culminating with the announcement of the Oxford-Weidenfeld Prize shortlist on 13 June. We will also make recordings of some of Oxford Translation Day’s online sessions available on the OCCT website on 13 June. For further details and to register, please go to the individual events on our events page: https://www.occt.ox.ac.uk/events.

Last week, we had our first digital event with Dr Margherita Laera. She discussed theatre and translation. The event was live-streamed via Microsoft Teams.

Creative Multilingualism’s LinguaMania podcasts are available online. In the latest episode of LinguaMania, Matthew Reynolds and Eleni Philippou argue that translation is so much more than just changing words from one language into another. Translation is creative, it's personal, and it can help build communities. Have a listen: https://podcasts.ox.ac.uk/why-do-we-need-people-translate-when-we-have-machine-translation.

EVENTS

The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities, or TORCH, has gone digital this term. If you haven’t already, do have a look at the range of online seminars, workshops and courses they have on offer. There are competitions to take part in, Q&As with academics, and “Shut Up And Write” sessions to keep you in touch with other students and keep your mind on your work. Have a look here.
