Postgraduate Work-in-Progress Seminar

Institute of Classical Studies

School of Advanced Study

University of London

Deadline for submissions: 16 August 2019

Programme to be finalised: late August 2019

We are now inviting abstracts from postgraduate students who would like to present a paper at the seminar during the year 2019/20. Submissions will be accepted for all three terms.

Speakers will give a paper of about 45 minutes’ duration, dealing with any subject connected with the ancient world (broadly defined), the reception of antiquity, or classical scholarship. They have the opportunity to receive questions, moderated by the joint chairs, from an audience of postgraduate students – mainly, but not exclusively, from the University of London – and to continue the discussion over wine and nibbles. The seminar provides a friendly environment in which speakers can talk about their research, take part in stimulating discussion of their paper, and extend their social and academic network. During the past years we have been pleased to attract speakers from institutions all over the world, including the United Kingdom, the EU, North & South America and Australia.

For more information, click here.

The seminar will take place in Bloomsbury, London at 5.00 p.m. on Fridays during term:

If you would like to present a paper, please submit an abstract of about 300 words, a working title for your paper, and ONE Friday during term on which you are NOT available. This will help us put the schedule together.

We are also accepting submissions for panel sessions of two coordinated papers. These sessions consist of two closely related 25-minute papers. Submissions for coordinated panels should include two abstracts of around 200 words each and an overview of the panel of around 100 words. Submissions should be directed to the seminar’s joint chairs at postgradwip@gmail.com.

With kind regards,

Valentina Barrile, Barbara Roberts, Kyriakoula Tzortzopoulou (Joint Chairs 2019/2020)
