In 2020, the world will celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday!

Beethoven is known all over the world, and his music is played everywhere. Monuments and busts can be found on every continent. No other composer has left behind a legacy greater than Beethoven, who is considered the best-known composer of all time. His signature piece, the 9th Symphony, appears on UNESCO'sWorld Heritage List.

The Beethoven Anniversary Year will be celebrated with a multitude of events across Oxford. Here you can find an event calendar that will be expanded on an ongoing basis. Whether concerts, exhibitions or theatre performances, you will be able to stay up-to-date with the events happening around the city.

The Faculty of Music will showcase some of the composer’s lesser-known works, including his horn sonata with period horn expert Anneke Scott and Steven Devine, and works for singers and strings, performed by the Kreutzer Quartet and tenor James Gilchrist.
