We are delighted to be holding a day of celebration on Friday 14th December to commemorate the first time that some women were able to vote in a British general election. The day involves a mix of talks, stalls, exhibitions and storytelling. The morning talks are aimed at ages 14 - 18, and the primary storytelling session is able to be booked by Year 4s, 5s and 6s.
Celebration Day Schedule:
10.30 – 11.30 – Formal Opening: Anneliese Dodds, MP for Oxford East & Philippa Bilton, descendant of Emily Davison
11.35 – 12.35 – Talks: Dr Tom Crook (Senior Lecturer, Brookes History) and Dr Debbie Challis (LSE, Suffragette 18 Project)
12.35 – 1.05pm – Stalls across school site in regions

1.05 – 2.05pm – Marcia Williams, “Women Who Dared” storytelling for Y7s
1.30 – 2.10pm – stalls for primaries (Years 4, 5 and 6)
2.10 – 3pm – Marcia Williams, “Women Who Dared” storytelling for primaries (Years 4, 5 and 6)

The Rumble Museum at Cheney School is running a wide variety of projects, exhibitions, talks and workshops to explore the story of Women’s Suffrage in the UK and beyond. There will be a variety of pop-up exhibitions and events throughout the year, culminating with an all day event on 14th December to mark the first time women voted in a general election.
