Paper Title: ‘David Hume and diplomacy, 1746-1769’

This talk will discuss the philosopher David Hume’s career as an aide-de-camp and diplomat, c. 1746-1769; it will focus particularly on Dr Waldmann's recovery of several new biographical sources from this period of Hume’s life, and it will examine how Hume’s diplomatic activities may have informed his historical writing, political thought, and authorial persona.
