Death in an Age of Biopolitics and Biocapital

The remains of a memory by Adam Arthouros Martinakis

Hilary term at Life Itself in Theory and Practice kicks off with the first of two interdisciplinary seminars. We are beginning our programme with a seminar focusing on questions of death in a contemporary era characterised by global conflict and technological anxiety. Where is the line between life and death? What does it mean to "survive"? What new contours does life itself take in this age of globalisation and ubiquitous digital technologies?

Our speakers are Adil Hossain (DPhil International Development) and Carl Öhman (DPhil Oxford Internet Institute). Adil will be speaking on narratives of death in ethnic conflict in India, and Carl will present part of his research on the digital human remains industry.

All welcome, no expertise or pre-reading required. Just bring your curiosity and queries.

Tea, coffee, and biscuits are provided free of charge.
The Sutro room is found in the top right-hand corner of Trinity's front quad; go into the staircase and the Sutro Room is on the first floor on your right. Ask the porter if you need a hand with directions!
