St John’s Cinema Club and the TORCH African Languages, Literatures and Cultures network invites you to a screening of Abderrahmane Sissako’s Bamako, from 2006 (115 minutes).
All are welcome! No registration required.
Set in the capital of Mali, Bamako, Sissako’s film portrays local spokesmen who take legal action against the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Africa’s economic and social crises. A witty political drama co-executive produced by Danny Glover, Bamako is “a fierce and unforgettable piece of political art” and “necessary viewing”, according to the New York Times.
Join us at 7.30pm on Tuesday the 14th of November, in the St John’s college Garden Quad Auditorium. An introduction will be given by Dr Alexandra Grieve, and refreshments will be served following the screening.
