Islands and Empires

islands and empires

As if lost in the expanse of the vast Pacific Ocean itself, the history of American, European, and Japanese colonization of Melanesia, Micronesia, Polynesia and Oceania, are often overlooked in the literatures of 19th and 20th Century empire. Week 1's seminar discussion seeks to redress this issues though an exploration of empire and resistance by Pacific peoples through the lenses of history, literature, and contemporary politics. All are welcome to attend, a light lunch will be provided.
