Queer Studies Research Lunch

queer studies

Our research lunches provide a relaxed space for those who already engage with queer studies to discuss their work, and for those who are interested in queer studies to find out how it is being used and how they themselves might engage with it, without any requirement of prior preparation.

This week, Marcus Bell (DPhil Classical Reception) will be thinking about the relationship between queer theory, dance, and the anus. A reflection on queer practice-as-research, Marcus will examine Harry Clayton-Wright's short film 'Deep Clean' (2019) to talk on the anus 'as the universal black hole into which rush genders, sexes, identities, and capital'.

Carl Bonner-Thompson (School of Geography and the Environment) will explore the embodied experience of using Grindr in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, paying attention to the ways sexualities produce through digital technologies and urban spaces.

Presentations will be followed by time for group discussion.

Lunch will be served from 12:20 and will include vegan and gluten-free options. All are most welcome. The venue is fully accessible. Please do contact us if you have any specific requirements.
