Salvatore Arancio: Timeless and Distant Journeys

arancio1

For Hilary term's Life Itself in Theory and Practice guest talk, we are thrilled to welcome Salvatore Arancio (salvatorearancio.com), an award-winning artist whose drawings and ceramics express the ductile intertwinement of matter, time, and form.

Arancio's work demonstrates a close attention to geological and vegetal phenomena, creating eery and defamiliarised artistic landscapes heightened by his frequent use of historically disparate forms of artistic production. Well-known on the international scene, Arancio has exhibited at (among many others) the Venice Biennale, Camden Arts Centre (London), and the Palais de Glace (Buenos Aires). He was most recently shown as part of the critically acclaimed Surreal Science exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery (London), where his dynamic, unnerving creations responded to and resonated with a host of 19th-century scientific artefacts from the George Loudon collection.

In this hour-long talk at Trinity College, Arancio will, using plentiful audiovisual aids, discuss his work, his methods, and his wide-ranging inspirations.

Attendance is absolutely free. All welcome, regardless of discipline. Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be provided.

The Sutro Room is fully accessible.
