traces of the past

PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED

An evening viewing to learn and share your thoughts about Traces of the Past at the Pitt Rivers Museum – a space to commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

This year we commemorate the 26th anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda which claimed more than one million lives. Traces of the Past gives faces and names to victims and foregrounds the voices of survivors. Rwandan community members now living in the UK tell their stories of survival and meaning-making – in this exhibition they lend objects that embody precious memories of loved ones whom they lost.

Join us at the Pitt Rivers Museum for a viewing of the exhibition - Traces of the Past. There will be an opportunity meet Dr Julia Viebach, the exhibition curator, and learn about how the Rwandan community were involved in the curation of the exhibition.

Following the viewing, we invite you to take part in an informal group discussion. We are interested in exploring members of public’s thoughts and responses to Traces of the Past. This will involve group conversation and creative methods, for example, sharing your thoughts in a letter and re-visiting the display through visual images.

This is a free event; booking is required.
