V&A Queering the Museum Workshop for IDAHOT

v and a idahot

Join co-chairs of the Victoria & Albert Museum's LGBTQ Working Group for a queering the museum workshop to commemorate the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. Hear about their work and how they find and research museum objects of LGBTQ interest, highlighting some of the different types of events they've put together in the process to publicise their discoveries. This will be followed by a discussion based around how you can implement these ideas into your own work/future plans.

The workshop is primarily aimed at those working in or interested in working in the museums and heritage industry as well as those in relevant subject areas, but anybody with a passion for museums and LGBTQ+ history is most welcome!
Booking essential.

Why not come along earlier and view the Rainbow Pilgrims pop-up exhibition.

Or grab yourself a free ticket to our evening event, which begins right after the workshop.

'The V&A’s LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) Working Group is comprised of Museum staff with an interest in using the V&A’s collections to explore issues of gender, sexuality and identity. We look to unearth previously hidden or unknown LGBTQ histories in the collections and aim to facilitate understanding of LGBTQ identities and histories through research, public programming, discussion and debate. We also consider the ways in which visitors themselves interpret and make sense of museum objects on the basis of their own identities and experiences.
The group is co-chaired by Dawn Hoskin, currently the Assistant Curator of Ceramics, Glass and Metalwork, who also worked on the curatorial team for the major 'Europe 1600-1815' gallery project; and Zorian Clayton, Curator of Prints, specialising in posters, who is also a programmer of the largest LGBTQ annual film festival in Europe, BFI Flare'.
