The White Rose Resistance Symposium
In 1943 five students and a professor at the University of Munich were arrested, interrogated, tried, and executed. They were members of The White Rose (Die Weiße Rose), a group that secretly wrote and distributed leaflets calling on the Germans to resist Hitler. The White Rose is not only a moving and compelling story in its own right, but it also speaks more broadly to the power of the written word and the ways in which culture can inform political action. This symposium brings together speakers from a range of disciplines and backgrounds and explores new perspectives on the group and its legacy.
Registration for the White Rose Symposium is open! Attendance is free thanks to a generous grant from The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities (TORCH); however, places are limited. Please register here.
All events will be held at St Edmund Hall and The Queen’s College, University of Oxford. The symposium is convened by the White Rose Project, in association with the Weiße Rose Stiftung Munich and the The Queen’s College Translation Exchange.
