'Ubharte Rehnuma: Prospects and Pathways for Muslim Family Law in India'

Knowledge Exchange Fellow:
Professor Justin Jones   |   Faculty of Theology and Religion   |   University of Oxford

Partner Organisation:
Indian Muslim Women's Movement, Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA)

This Fellowship will be used to run a knowledge exchange colloquium in India combining academics, legal professionals and long-standing NGO-based practitioners on the subject of Islamic family law. The Fellowship will build upon a successful, existing collaboration with the Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA: 'Indian Muslim Women's Movement'), an alliance of NGOs focused on women's rights from across India. The forum will be convened as a large, three-day event in Delhi. Addressing an issue of huge contemporary debate in India, it will assemble a group of engaged professional actors to exchange information, formulate shared perspectives and develop mutual strategies.

The project will foster mutual discussion and cooperation between these groups, it will lead to the development of common understanding, and will lead to the production of a report for reference by these practitioners. The forum will also be used by the P.I. to collect research data for articles and publications; to develop future research projects and funding bids; and to devise further knowledge exchange activity with the same project partners.
